Questions about Nail services

Can I have a colour instead of French manicure style gel nails?

Yes, you can choose from our wide selection of colours available.

 Do you offer nail art?

Yes, we have a selection of stamps, glitters, foils and gems available to decorate your nails.

I have been chewing my nails since I was a child and wondered if gel nails would help my natural nails to grow?

Yes most definitely. It would take a little commitment from you, especially if the nail is bitten beyond the nail edge, but it is possible to coax the nail to grow normally.

What is a Shellac/Gelish manicure / pedicure?

Shellac/Gelish involves applying a layer of gel overlay onto the natural nail. The overlay compliments the natural nail shape and gel can be chosen in a colour of your choice from both brand collections. Shellac/Gelish can be applied to fingers and toes.

How long does Shellac/Gelish manicure / pedicure last?

Shellac/Gelish manicures and pedicures are chip resistant and therefore last for up to 3 weeks dependant on aftercare.

What are Minx nail wraps?

Minx nail wraps are a new popular nail craze which involves applying a wrap over the nail to compliment the natural nail shape. They are available in many colours and patterns and therefore provide a funky style which cannot be achieved with nail varnish alone. Nail wraps can be applied to fingers and toes, but tend to last longer on toes and are more for special occasions on fingers.

How long do Minx nail wraps last?

Nail wraps last approximately 3- 6 weeks on toes and roughly 1-2 weeks on fingers.

I have a specific pattern / colour I would like to have Minx nail wraps in. Is there any way I can check you have this available before I book a treatment?

Yes, please visit the following website http://www.sweetsquared.com/Sweet-Shop/Fingers-Toes to browse designs and once chosen, please contact us to see if we have them in stock, if  we do not have them in stock we will need to order them in which usually takes up to 3 days, you will also need to pay a £10 deposit at the time of placing your order.

What is the difference between normal and Luxury manicure and pedicures?

The normal manicure and pedicure involves soak, reshaping of the nail, cuticle work and a paint colour with a massage and takes roughly 1 hour. The luxury manicure or pedicure includes the additional use of heated mitts or booties within the manicure and takes 1 hour 20 minutes.

What aftercare can you give me for nail treatments?

We say most nail enhancements are pretty indestructible with Normal Wear and Tear, which means you have to partner with us by adding a little protection to your nails if doing tough jobs like household cleaning and gardening, hobbies that are rough on your hands or using harsh chemical products without wearing gloves; doing these things without protection can mar your nail enhancement service.

If you do happen to cause some damage to the nail coating and see any of the following signs, we hope you find the advice below helpful.

If something you have done has caused a chip or lifted an edge of your Gel/acrylic/Shellac/Gelish manicure, please do NOT pick or pull at the area, as this will cause any damage to increase. Please ring so that I can assess the nail and decide if a repair is necessary. Please note that repairs will be chargeable.

If you are on holiday please be careful when using sun tan oils or insect repellent solutions as many of these products contain solvent oils which will cause major damage to the Gel/Acrylic/Shellac Gelish colour coat. Some of the more delicate colours can fade somewhat if one is in chlorinated water followed by excessive sun (remember that chlorine is a bleach and sun intensifies the bleaching action). Dry your hands and nails after swimming and before sunbathing to minimize any colour fading.

Please use Solar Oil at least twice a day (especially at night before going to bed) to replace lost moisture to your skin and nails. I recommend Solar Oil which I retail at.  Also beneficial is the use of any professional hand and body lotion daily. Regularly using  professional aftercare products will substantially prolong the life of your manicure and keep your natural nails and the skin surrounding them healthy, moisturised and flexible. If you wish to temporarily change the colour of your nails whilst wearing enhancements you can use nail enamel over the nail coating but please be sure to use an Acetone Free Remover if removing nail polish between appointments. Relative to your life-style and activity level, your manicure will need fortnightly or three weekly maintenance as there will be obvious re-growth. At this point I can either re-Shellac/Gelish your nails (removing existing Shellac/Gelish and re-applying a fresh new colour) or infill/re-balance gel/acrylic or I can remove completely which takes a brief 10 minutes with shellac/gelish but slightly longer for acrylics/gels If you do decide you want to remove your nail enhancements please call me and let me do it safely for you . Incorrect removal at home may damage the surface of your nails.

Questions about Spray Tanning

What Spray Tan product do you use?

We use Fakebake spray tan solution, which has an original shade for light to medium, a dark shade for dark to medium tans and a 60min tan solution which is ideal if you are in a rush to tan for a night out.

How do I prepare for my Tan?

To get the best results from your spray tan:

1.Remove dead skin cells by doing a full body exfoliation this needs to be done the night before!

2.Shave/wax at least 24 hours before. This allows pores to close again, otherwise resulting in a ‘plucked chicken’ effect from the tanning solution sitting in the open pores.

3.Deodorants and perfumes can prohibit the absorption of the solution, therefore these should be removed before the tan is applied, preferably with water.and a wet flannel.

4.Do not use moisturisers on the day of the tan as they can act as a barrier to the solution.

5. Apply Nail Polish to your toes nails as the tanning procedure over time can discolour your nails.

What will Happen During My Spray Tan?

Barrier cream will be applied to your hands and feet and any dry areas to prevent them from tanning too much.

I will then ask you to remove your clothing, leaving on what you feel comfortable in.The spraying will take about 10-15 minutes, plus a few extra minutes to dry . The spraying takes place in a cubicle to ensure spray goes on your skin and not into the air.

During treatment you will see the colour on your skin. This is a guide colour for myself to see whilst spraying. The tan will develop over 8 hours (max) into a gorgeous sunless tan. The guide colour will be seen washing off during your initial shower.

What do I wear while having a spray tan?

I advise you to wear dark underwear ie: a thong or bikini bottoms whilst tanning and most women choose to go topless (disposable thongs are available).

But we would like to advise you that we want you to feel comfortable, so you wear what suits you.

Men - Boxer shorts or shorts to be worn.

How dark will I get?

There are two different strengths of DHA, and I will advise you of the one best suited to your skin tone, bearing in mind how dark you want to go. The darker you tan naturally, the darker you will go with a spray tan.

What about streaking or turning orange?

Fake tanning has come a long way since the early days. Better solutions, machines, training and spray tan technology virtually eliminates these issues. Fakebake Spray Therapists are experienced in producing non-streaky tans and will ensure the right solution is chosen for your colouring.

What should I do after my tan?

Wait at least 8 hours before showering (unless you have had the 60min spray tan, which I would recommend leaving 3 hours for a darker tan).Wear dark, loose clothing during the development time of the tan. The tan will wash out of most clothing but may stain lighter coloured items. Tight clothing may also cause rub off, resulting in lighter patches on your skin.Do not do excessive exercise and perspire during the tans development time.Try not to take long baths or go swimming as chlorine will fade the tan quicker. Pat, Do not rub yourself dry after showering or bathing.Moisturise, is the key to keeping your tan, so do this EVERY day

How long does the tan last?

Your tan should last between 7 - 10 days. You can extend you tan by following the aftercare advice given above. you will also be provide with an after care sheet after your tan.

What if tanning solution gets on my clothes after the spray tan?

It is recommended that you wear dark, loose fitting clothes after your tan has been applied. However, normal laundering should work with a pre-treatment for any stubborn stains.

If I have spray tans regularly should I let my skin rest from spray tanning?

It is recommended that every 5 weeks you allow your skin to rest for 7-10 days. This will allow you to completely remove any tan from your skin, which will eliminate patchiness and areas of wear.

Is it safe for me to have a spray tan if I am pregnant?

Fakebake tanning solutions are a non toxic, food grade product that is not known to have any detrimental effects to an expectant mother. However, we would recommend you consult your doctor before tanning.

Yes most definitely, even if you have had a test in the past, changes in your skin may mean you could have a reaction to the tint. You should have a patch test 48 hours before treatment. Patch tests are free of charge when booking a tint treatment.
